Soundwalk

For four years I would walk the same route to go to school, always having my music blasting in my ear at 6:30 in the morning. So i decided to take this same 16 block walk at 6:30 in the morning but this time, there would be no music. I always knew my neighborhood at this time of day was quiet and there is not much going on but the silence was emphasized this time. I could hear the wind pushing through the dying leaves, and i could feel them crunching under my feet. Since my mind had more of a chance to wander, my thoughts were more effected by the general environment, if that was the weather or how bright it was outside. Since it was so early there wasn't much light and it brought me back to how scary this walk was when I was just in high school. Like what was anyone thinking, making it so 14-18 year old kids have to get leave for school before the sun rises. I remembered when during my second year there had been a string of rapes for about a month. The attacks had been reported ti take place near my route and it was around the same time. Why was i still walking to school every day? This wasn't the only thing I thought about but I was mostly stuck on how crazy it was that i made this walk every day two times a day for four years, which was really only dangerous in the mornings during the fall/winter seasons since there was so little light in the mornings. The tension between the weather, time of day and the general season (spooky season/ halloween) made these general themes come to mind more easily. But i definitely remembered the weather and time of day also playing a part in my song selection, so maybe it also played a part in what i decided to focus on. The "scary/eerie" sounds were easier to identify with due to the general atmosphere.
